When is the best time for Rwanda Gorilla trekking safaris?

Traveling for Rwanda gorilla trekking safaris can be done throughout the year with the peak summer/ dry seasons having more traffic than the rainy/ wet seasons. Summer months of June to August and December to February are usually considered more for tracking mountain gorillas since the trekking trails are less slippery but the high tourist traffic keeps the amenity costs higher than the rainy/ wet season. During rainy season months of September to November and March to May trekking gorillas is supported by studded hiking boots from the slippery ground, walking sticks and rain coats.

Tracking mountain gorillas in Africa’s tropical montane forests demands physical fitness and preparation for hiking above 2,500 meters above sea level for 1 hour and beyond. These rainy months are ideal for affordable budget travelers as most of the amenities are at low costs given the low tourist traffic.
