A 4 days Rwenzori mountaineering experience along with chimpanzee tracking & wildlife safari tours. Rwenzori park’s have primates, reptiles, Rwenzoris peak sceneries while at Queen Elizabeth park you will have sightings of lions, elephants, buffaloes, vast hippo pods, leopards and chimpanzee tracking excursions in the Kalinzu forest game reserve.

Detailed Rwenzori mountaineering & wildlife adventures

Day 1 arrival & rest at lake Victoria shores

You will arrive at Entebbe international airport and be taken to your booked hotel/ accommodation at the shores of Lake Victoria to have a chill off from the long haul flight as you prepare to travel to the foothills of the mountain Rwenzori.

Day 2 drive to Rwenzori mtn. park headquarters

A 9 hour journey will get you to the foothills of the mountain Rwenzori as you prepare for the next day’s trekking adventure activities in the mountain Rwenzori national park, an experience that only beholds to this unique mountain of the moon.

Accommodation: Snow heights lodge (or a similar one)

  • On the first day of the trek, you’ll set off from the rangers post and go to the mountain Rwenzori national park, where the 7 days Rwenzori Kilembe trail trek starts. The trail then continues to the Forest zone. Expect to see some primate species like black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red colobus monkeys, then birds like the Rwenzori region & Albertine rift endemic species among others. You then continue to Sine camp where you will stopover for lunch. Then proceed to Kalalama camp (3,147m) where you will have dinner, the next day briefing and an overnight rest.
  • Next day will see you set off by 9:00am for your trek through the bamboo forests zone, which is a steep climb with many high steps. You will stop for a break, before you proceed along the heather zone, passing through many streams including waterfalls, all sheltered by the typical green moss vegetation. You will be able to see more of Giant Heather trees, even in a misty atmosphere and arrive in the early afternoon at the Mutinda Camp at 3,688 m. This camp was named after the Mutinda Peaks. Mutinda look stands out among the moss covered rocks with spectacular views across the Rwenzori Mountains, down the Kasese town & Lake George which makes it worth visiting.
  • The next morning will see you trek walk straight through the boggy terrain with the typical wet vegetation & tussocks, to the Alpine vegetation zone with the presence of the giant lobelias, the groundsel & vast flowers as you cross the Mutinda valley. Then climb steeply up to Namusangi Valley (3,840 m), from where you will enjoy the best view of the Mutinda Peaks. You will further go across the many bogs, along the Namusangi valley to Bugata Camp at 4,062m which us the arrival point of the day. At this point, you will enjoy the breathtaking views of the Weismann’s peak of Mount Luigi of Savoy, which is usually covered by snow. This Rwenzori Kilembe trek takes you via lake Kitandara that stretches up to the Democratic republic of Congo. You will be briefed about the following day and then retire to your cabins for the night.
  • The last hiking day, you will hike up the Bamwanjara Pass that ascends steadily with several long flat bogs. As you proceed, expect to see the glacial lakes far beneath the valley, and get excellent views of all the main snow capped peaks upon reaching the Bamwanjara pass at 4,450 m, where there is a small shelter for you to relax for short break refreshment, as you enjoy the scenery before starting to descend back to the park gate.

You will tour the most popular game in Uganda from the north towards the south. Special features in this park are it being a lion sanctuary, Kazinga channel which harbors the highest number of hippo pods in the world. Queen Elizabeth has the highest number of bird species & concentration in Africa having more than 660 different bird species, elephant and buffalo herds, giraffes, antelopes, leopards, tree climbing lions in the southern Ishasha sector and vast sceneries of the Rwenzori Mountain & its ranges.

Day 9 chimpanzee tracking experience at Kalinzu forest reserve

With more than 300 chimpanzee individuals, tracking at Kalinzu forest guarantees a perfect primates experience with 100% chances of coming across the chimpanzees in this forest along with numerous forest bird species.

Day 10 transfer to Kampala & prepare for departure
