Best planned Nairobi national park safari with city tours experience

Nairobi national park safari tours

Best city tour & Nairobi national park safari on a short 15-minute drive of 7km out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park. It is the only protected area in the world with such a huge variety of animals and birds close to a capital city. Nairobi national park was officially opened in 1946, and was the first park to be gazetted not only in Kenya but also in East Africa. It covers an area of 117km2, on 45 square miles and lies about 5000-6000 feet (1500-1800 meters) above sea level.

Nairobi wildlife game safari

Wide open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. It is fenced on three sides, whereas the open southern boundary allows migrating wildlife to move between the park and the adjacent Kitengela plains. Herbivores gather in the park during the dry season. Nairobi national park is negatively affected by increasing human and livestock populations, changing land use and poaching of wildlife. Despite its proximity to the city and its relative small size, it boasts a large and varied wildlife population, and is one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries with a dense black rhino population. They are well-protected here and are so abundant the reserve provides rhinos to other parks throughout Kenya.
