Best Elgon mountaineering and trekking on an 8 days experience

On the 1^st day, you will set off for the 7.1km trek to an altitude gain from Elgon trekker’s base camp at 1,720m to Hunwick’s camp at 2,882m an altitude difference of 1,162 meters. The trail takes you through local people’s communities, gardens & coffee plantations giving you a perfect feel of Elgon’s surrounding locality.

The 2^nd day will see you steadily walk through the montane forest with open areas of bamboo trees which is now regenerating after heavy continued harvests from the locals for bamboo shoots which they eat as a sauce/ local dish (malewa) and building materials. You will reach Masaba camp at 3,745m which is on a high spot with wonderful views far and wide the Elgon ranges and towns/ settlements at the base of the mountain.

On day 3, From Masaba camp, you will steadily trek up to the top of Masaba table which is a large rock 700m long standing 80 meters above the surrounding land and walk its full length after where you will slope down and pass close to the base of Masaba summit at 4,152 meters. At this point, you will have an option to climb the summit before continuing along the rim of the caldera to Wagagai peak at 4,321m. After a short rest at Wagagai, you will descend to Sasa river camp via Mude camp at 3,472m for the night. 

Last trekking day, you will move from Mude camp, you will descend down to base camp via Dirigana waterfalls to finish your Elgon mountaineering and trekking experience.
