While in East Africa there are exciting scenes and history to know and learn about these African cities right from the commercial, administrative, political and social ways of life that have till now been effective to the people’s modern ways of life and governance. When in Rwanda, Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest cities is readily available to showcase its modern developments, hotels and resorts along with the local community traders in markets and shops that sell art and crafts and made in Rwanda items and the national museum.
When in Uganda, Kampala and its busy streets will give you unending smiles from the happy people while gazing at monuments and buildings aging more than 50 years back painted with the country’s history. Kampala has always been Uganda’s administrative city with tombs where the 3 late kings of one of the biggest monarchs in Africa lie, cathedrals of catholic and protestant religions, Baha’i faith’s temple, Gadhafi mosque the largest in Uganda built by the late Col. Muamar Gadhafi of Libya, the Uganda Museum, Fort Laggard memorial monument- the first explorer to reach and administer the city, the king’s palace, the old grocery markets that have existed since the historical days dating back before colonial times among other areas. Kampala has also got 5 star hotels, restaurants, lounges, clubs for night life, street foods, grills, buffets and cuisines.
Another interesting city to tour in Uganda is Entebbe city which has botanical gardens that have over 100 ancient tree species, birds and insect species resident to the area, the Uganda wildlife education Center(UWEC) which the zoo that protects and breeds wild animals. The zoo has chimpanzees, lions, leopards, tigers, rhinos, ostriches among others; the mabamba swamp which is mostly known for harboring the endangered shoebill stalk.
While in Kenya, Nairobi is a must see on a city tour watching at the transition of the modern infrastructure from suburb like looks with the busy streets and hard-working people. Nairobi has got modern international group of hotels like Marriot, Serena, Hilton among others, restaurants, lounges and grill, night clubs, various mchomo street foods etc. Along-side these are the national museum, administrative monuments, matatus and historical sites. Mombasa is a historical coastal town on the Indian ocean coast with Kenya having the ancient Arabic architecture since the days of the slave trade error. The coast was once occupied by Portuguese, Arabs, Indians and the British which walks of life have let foot marks of their dress codes, art and crafts and food cuisines to the Kenyan people have assimilated these ways of life. A tour through Mombasa town will give an insight of how the people have transitioned with these lifestyles to modernity.
While in Tanzania, Dodoma is worth paying a visit. After the transfer of the city from Dar es Salaam for more space, the city has picked up on development with state of the infrastructure and fully transitioned into the administrative city. Dar es Salaam is the ancient coastal town at the Indian ocean that dominated with Arab culture and architecture with rich history dating back as far as the slave trade error. The coastal people have since then assimilated to the Arabic style of life from dress codes, spicy foods and the Swahili language that came by after the intermarriage between the Arabs and coastal people. Arusha another administrative town in the north also has a lot to know about Tanzania holding some of Tanzania’s strongest administrative post for the modern civilisation. Zanzibar island also has towns that are worth touring like the stone town, prison island among others which hold ancient architecture, historical event monuments and museums, sea foods & dishes and streets foods mainly in the evening times.
