Detailed Bird watching- Kenya itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi city tour| Bird watching- Kenya

On arrival for your Bird watching- Kenya safari, you will be picked up by our guide from the airport and head to your booked accommodation in the heart of Nairobi city where you will have a tour around the city’s metropolitan area, administrative structures, nature parks, museums, historical monuments, hotels and restaurants, handmade art and craft shops, lounges, market places and engaging with various local people in Nairobi. You will have a chance too to taste local foods and cuisines like mchomo and other street foods. Later in the evening, a nightlife in the lounges and clubs in Nairobi will be waiting for you along with various cocktails and beverages. Be ready to meet up many different expats from all over the world.

Day 2 Nairobi N.P: Immigrant Bird species

On the second morning, you will head out through Nairobi city to Nairobi national park which is just 7km outside the city for an exciting Bird watching- Kenya tour. The park has numerous bird species and numerous migrant species especially during the time between June and August adding to the more than 400 resident species making it a true birding haven in Africa; black headed heron, black smith lapwing, common moorhen, long-tailed fiscal, martial eagle, hartlaub’s bustard, Jackson’s window bird, lappet-faced vulture, kori bustard, white bellied bustard, white headed vulture, footy falcon, corncrake, secretary bird, Fischer’s lovebird among others. Along with mammal species such as lions, leopards, giraffes, hippos, ostriches, rhinos, hartebeests, waterbucks, hyenas, buffaloes, kobs, reptiles among others. The later afternoon hours will get heading out of the park to lake Nakuru national park.

Day 3 Ol Pejeta conservancy

Home to the highest number of protected black and white rhinos and also the only 2 remaining northern white rhinos in the world, the park offers both drives and walking safari experiences to its visitors as they interact with rangers sharing with them knowledge about the sanctuary and the animals therein. The conservatory is also a sanctuary to many more rescued species especially from hands of poachers and this is also the only place in Kenya where you can find chimpanzees. Bird watching- Kenya is also not exempted while at the sanctuary with numerous bird species such as; rupell’s vulture, pallid harrier, long crested eagle, gray crowned crane, Abyssinian thrush, black headed heron among others. The expanse of the sanctuary also harbors lions, giraffes, elephants, warthogs, hyenas, kobs, waterbucks, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, hippos, zebras, reptiles, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys among others.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru N.P

This day will find you at lake Nakuru which one of the world’s highest bird concentrated areas with more than a million flamingos, storks, geese, ducks among others residing at this shallow lake. The pink colored flamingoes flying and settling in huge numbers make this lake one of the most colorful Bird watching destinations in the world for species for example hottentot teal, bateleur, maccoa duck, pallid harrier, rupell’s vulture, shining sunbird, European roller, great snipe, western reef heron, red-capped lark, Abyssinian thrush, eastern imperial eagle, long crested eagle among others. Along the birds are mammals such as buffaloes, kobs, water bucks, antelopes, giraffes, baboons, monkeys, reptiles among others. Towards evening time, you will drive out of Nakuru getting closer to the masai mara.

Day 5-6 Masai Mara and wildebeest migration

Continuing with the Bird watching- Kenya safari  at Masai mara, you will wake up to the sound of birds and the wild life of the mara. The park offers different safari experiences such as air balloon safaris, game drives, horse riding safaris and walking safaris with the masai people. The park is a vast green grassland anchored by woodland, swamps, forest species, acacia and the mara river that have maintained an effective eco-system that is a habitat to huge number of wild game. This solid eco-system harbors numerous bird species making the park a birding haven to bird lovers; these species include; turaco, great kingfisher, abdim’s stork, white-backed vulture, african wood owl, kori bustard, grey headed kingfisher, black winged kite, african sacred ibis, african green pigeon, grey kestrel, black chested snake eagle, red billed teal, terminck’s courser, bare-faced-go-away bird, green wood hoopoe, mouse bird, silver bird, african grey hornbill, stripped kingfisher, african rail among others.

Day 7-8 Amboseli N.P

On this day you will enter Amboseli national park which is found at the feet of mountain Kilimanjaro and also at the border of Kenya and Tanzania; known for its large elephant herds and also referred to as home of the African elephant. The park will guarantee you the best sights of Africa’s highest snowcapped peak and tallest free standing mountain- Kilimanjaro. The park’s climate favors a lot of stay for birds thus making it an outstanding birding destination. Birds in the park include; african spoonbill, long tailed lapwing, saddle-billed stork, white-browed coucal, kori bustard, goliath heron, superb starling, african jacana, white bellied bustard, crowned lapwing, hamerkops, little bee-eater, kittlitz’s plover, yellow-necked spurfowl, yellow-billed stork among others. The vast green plains also harbor giraffes, zebras, leopards, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, kobs, lions, rhinos and numerous bird species. Towards the end of the second day in the park, you will head out of the park to Diani beach at Mombasa.

Day 9-10 Diani beach

On this day you will be woken up by a beautiful sunrise from the horizon of the Indian ocean and set out onto the shiny white sands of Mombasa coastal line at Diani beach; one of the most-white sands and cleanest beaches in the world. You will be able to engage in various activities during your stay there such as; scuba diving, swimming, kite rafting, horse riding, nature walks, sea creature viewing like sea turtles, dolphins, corals among others, spot fishing, enjoying sea food cuisines and coconut cocktails, beach sports, camp fires among others, have a view rare species such as yellow baboon,, Angolan colobus, Sykes monkey, bush babies and bird species such as; african barred owlet, malachite kingfisher, house crow, mosque swallow, pied kingfisher, gray heron, great egret, striated heron, african jacana, african darter, little grebe, african pygmy goose, african pied wagtail among others. This is one of the best ways to end an African safari. On the last day of the safari, you will either set out to Mombasa or back to Nairobi for departure according to your booked departure flight.
