Lake Bunyonyi is a crater lake located in the south west part of Uganda in the Muhavura dormant volcano mountain ranges. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the water features that are as a result of geo volcanic actions that happened millions of years ago. After numerous eruptions and overriding of land blocks and masses there was a deep hollow basin that was filled with water over time forming a lake.
Lake Bunyonyi is not just the most beautiful but also the deepest crater lake in Africa and has its name derived from the numerous bird species that harbor or its shores and islands. Lake Bunyonyi has 29 islands each having a name that is derived from certain historical events and occurrences that transpired among the local people.
