4 days Serengeti national park safari

Day 1; Transfer to Serengeti national park

On arrival, you will transfer to Serengeti national park on a 5 hours road drive or 40 minutes domestic flight via Arusha airport.

Day 2; Wildebeests, Game drives & bird watching

You will have a game drive very early in the morning watching predators as they get to find hiding and ungulate spreading out in search for pasture. You will have day game drives to watch wildebeests & zebras cross crocodile infested rivers. Bird watching will be another interesting experienc in the park.

Day 3; Hot air balloon rides

Very early in the morning, you will wake up as early as 4 am to prepare hot air balloon rides. This is one of the best experiences on Africa safari having spectacular views of the savannah from above. You will enjoy bush breakfast/ dinner and continue with a wild game drive.

Day 4; Departure

You will set off from the park back to the airport to catch up with your departure flights.

Wildebeests; facts, life cycle and migration

The wildebeests with their distinctive black and white striped coats and distinctive horns, are the undisputed stars of the show. These sturdy bovids are the backbone of the migration, leading the charge and setting the pace for the rest of the herd. Alongside them, the graceful zebras add a touch of charisma, their bold patterns serving as a visual cue for the wildebeest to follow.

The massive annual migration route of 800km of wildebeest and zebra seeking new pasture, the herds move north from their breeding grounds in the grassy southern plains. Many cross the marshy western corridor’s crocodile-infested Grumeti river. Others veer northeast to the Lobo Hills, home to black eagles. Black rhinos inhabit the granite outcrops of the Moru Kopjes.

When to visit Serengeti

The best times to see this spectacle vary depending on the specific stage of the migration. From December to March, the herds gather in the southern serengeti for calving season, while between July and October, they cross the Grumeti and Mara rivers, often facing the perilous challenge of crocodile infested waters.

Naabi hill gate

Naabi gate is located at the eastern part of Serengeti national park is one of the most commonly used gates. Naabi gate is a few kilometers from the eastern Serengeti boundary with Ngorongoro crater. Naabi gate is an administrative check point for TANAPA & NCAA offices.

Fort Ikoma gate

Fort Ikoma gate is located on the north western boundary of the park and a few kilometers south of the entrance of Grumeti game reserve.

Klein's gate

Klein’s gate is located on the north eastern part of Serengeti national park and is mostly used by travelers heading to Loliondo game area.

Ndabaka gate

Ndabaka gate is located on the western side of the Serengeti park along Musoma- Mwanza highway located close to lake Victoria.

Bologonja gate

Bologonja gate is located on the northern boundary of Serengeti national park near the boundary of Serengeti national park and Masai Mara game reserve and the Tanzania- Kenya border.

Handajega gate

Handajega gate is located in Serengeti’s south western edge in Mwanza town.

How to get to Serengeti national park

By road: Serengeti national park is 500km from Dodoma international airport on a 10 hours road drive. The park is 300km from Kilimanjaro international airport on 6 hours road drive after crossing through Ngorongoro crater game park.

By domestic flights/ airstrips: Domestic flights to Serengeti game park start from Arusha airport for 40 minutes up to 1 hour to the park when you arrive in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro international airport. Serengeti national park has several airstrips near different park gates and in the different game reserve areas for example;

Kogatende airstrip is located (-1.56509° S, 34.88523°E) on the banks of the Mara river in the northern part of Serengeti national park. This airstrip is ideal for tourists who visit the park to witness the wildebeests migration crossing experience.
Seronera airstrip is located (-2.45771° S, 34.82041° E) in the heart of the park which is 2 hours drive from Naabi hill gate and Ndabaka gate.
Serengeti Kusini airstrip is one of the most commonly used airstrips in Serengeti national park. This airstrip is located near lake Ndutu, lake Elemti, lake El Dabsh, lake Masek which are great calving areas for wildebeests & zebras during the great wildebeest migration.
Lobo airstrip is located (-2.01044° S, 35.16065° E) on the north eastern region of Serengeti national park in Lobo area that is a 30 minutes to 1 hour drive to the park’s main gate. The airstrip is 6km from Klein’s gate & 7km from Bologonja springs.
Kirawira B airstrip is found (-2.15967° S, 34.22115° E) in the western part of Serengeti national park & a short distance north of Grumeti river. The airstrip is 1 hour drive to Ndabaka gate, 8km from Grumeti game reserve and Handajeba gate.
Fort Ikoma airstrip is located (-2.08016° S, 34.63027° E) north west of Serengeti national park and 1km from Fort Ikoma gate.
Sasakwa Grumeti airstrip is located (-2.07073° S, 34.50605° E) within Singita Grumeti reserves which borders the western side of Serengeti national park.
