SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Serengeti National Park, in northern Tanzania, is the heart the larger serengeti ecosystem that extends to the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Ngorongoro conservation area. Serengeti national park alone covers an area of 14,763 sq. km of a vast savannah landscape and rivers.

Serengeti national park, a UNESCO world heritage site in Tanzania is one of the most iconic wildlife destinations in the world and offers a quintessential African safari experience. Renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and biodiversity, the park is perhaps best known for the great migration, a natural spectacle that draws wildlife enthusiasts from across the globe.

Serengeti voted world’s third best nature-based destination.

The northern serengeti gateway is world-renown for wildebeest migration, the largest of its kind on the planet that sees nearly 2m wildebeests traverse the Serengeti and Masai Mara reserve each year in search of fresh grazing and water.

The wildebeest, with their distinctive black and white striped coats and distinctive horns, are the undisputed stars of the show. These sturdy bovids are the backbone of the migration, leading the charge and setting the pace for the rest of the herd. Alongside them, the graceful zebras add a touch of charisma, their bold patterns serving as a visual cue for the wildebeest to follow.

The massive annual migration route of 800km of wildebeest and zebra seeking new pasture, the herds move north from their breeding grounds in the grassy southern plains. Many cross the marshy western corridor’s crocodile-infested Grumeti River. Others veer northeast to the Lobo Hills, home to black eagles. Black rhinos inhabit the granite outcrops of the Moru Kopjes.

For those fortunate enough to visit the serengeti, witnessing the great migration is a once in a lifetime experience. The best times to see this spectacle vary depending on the specific stage of the migration. From December to March, the herds gather in the southern serengeti for calving season, while between July and October, they cross the Grumeti and Mara rivers, often facing the perilous challenge of crocodile infested waters.

Serengeti National Park is a Site harboring wildlife: over 2 million ungulates, 4000 lions, 1000 leopard, 550 cheetahs and some 500 bird species inhabit an area close to 15,000 square kilometers in size.
