Unforgettable Tanzania

With some of the most highly populated wildlife parks on the continent, Tanzania is a bucket list destination for any tourist visiting Africa for it’s sightful scenes from the snow capped peak of Kilimanjaro to Africa’s big 5- lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffaloes throughout the grasslands and rivers that harbor many other various species like zebras, elephants, antelopes, wilder beests, primates, crocodiles, rhinos, giraffes, waterbucks and over 400 bird species like Secretary Bird, waterbirds, numerous vultures, eagles and hawks among others residing in areas of the lake Victoria shores and the national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater area, Tarangire the Indian coast areas and on the Zanzibar islands.

So rich with ancient history, Tanzania’s coastal areas and Zanzibar were major Portuguese, Indian and Arabic early trading and connecting central Africa to the rest of the world. With the occupation of both the German and the British, numerous languages are spoken being dominated with the Swahili language. This multi-racial history has many landmarks and sites of ancient Arabic architecture in the country worth visiting and more so led to the discovery of many various food cuisines and dishes inspired by different walks of life. The coastal island and coastal areas have unique resorts and white sand beaches which make Tanzania a resting haven worth winding up with an East African trip.

SERENGETI; The great migration

The great migration starts from the southern plains of the Serengeti every year from the month of May to July  after bearing their calves numbering at more than 500,000 between January and March gathering in huge numbers, more than 2,000,000 wilder beasts, more than 400,000 zebras, 12,000+ elands among other herbivores embark on a 800 kilometer trek that moves through predator( lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs etc.) and rivers infested with crocodiles north to Masai Mara in search of fresh pastures after depleting the pastures of the Serengeti park. The movement of these mammals is a wonder it happens nowhere else in the world and so spectacular scenically as  the herbivores fight to escape and survive the predators and make it to their destination in Kenya’s Mara. With the beginning of short rains in October the herds make their way back and by December they are settled in central areas of Serengeti which are also their calving vicinities and that completes the trekking cycle.

As the herds move across the landscape, they must face the challenges of Serengeti’s diverse predator population. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even crocodiles lie in wait, ready to pounce on the vulnerable young and the weary. The crossing of the Mara river, in particular, is a harrowing experience, as the animals must brave the swift currents and the jaws of the ever present crocodiles.
